Just finished doing an October update to the tech and social events calendar (just click on the link in the header). But if you know of events that should be here, gimme a shout.
Stuff like Blogtoberfest (put together annually by Jenny), or any of the other cool fall events.
Enjoy!

More updates all through the summer
by
Jeff Cutler
From food to tech to singles' events, the calendar has been updated with hundreds of things to do from now through Labor Day and beyond.
Take a look. And if your event isn't here, then give me a shout and I'll add it. Best way to do that is to list it on Eventbrite and I can just link right to your listing. **Make sure it has a date on it - multiple date events cannot be easily imported to any calendar.
Thanks!

How Far is the Cape?
by
Jeff Cutler
The perspective people have over distance has puzzled me for years. A friend in the northern suburbs of Chicago would often have no issue going to the supermarket 45 minutes from her house or driving hours just to meet up with friends in another midwestern state.
Conversely, if those of us in Boston are presented with the 'challenge' of going to Somerville, Hingham, Dedham or even Portsmouth, we balk more violently than a child at vaccination time.
That being said, I wanted to share with you some photos of a quick adventure Gretchen and I took yesterday. We went ALL THE WAY to the Cape. Yesirreebob. And whilst on this peninsula (or is it an island as it is broken off by a waterway), we traveled to the very tip - Provincetown.
Enjoy the photos of our adventure. And next time somebody says "come to a tweetup in Quincy," think about how much of a hardship that 19-minute drive will be from your cushy, oddly provincial studio in the city.

Calendars Calendars Calendars
by
Jeff Cutler
Let me ask you this... Where do you get your social media event info? If it's not here, or if you use a collection of calendars to get your info, would you prefer to have one point of contact?
Well, I'm not sure that's going to happen. Even I need to go to other calendars regularly to find out what's going on in Boston. From Tweetups to networking to business events, I scour the Internet and even the calendars other folks keep so that I can be sure not to miss an event.
I regularly find listings on Boston Tweetup, from Kristen Haley and from the MiTX events board. I even look at Meetup, Upcoming, Eventbrite and Mashable to see what's on tap for the next few weeks.
Ultimately, the real responsibility for remaining informed about events falls on you. Check back here regularly to see what things I've listed. But then poke around the Web to see what else is happening in town. I might not list a lot of vegetable rallies because I think veggies are the Devil's Legos. You might love them.
And while I might overlook an event from time to time, I urge you to call me out on Twitter or here in the comments so I can make the calendar accurate and comprehensive. I think everyone who keeps a calendar in Boston feels that way - we're one big happy family.
So, I welcome your comments and updates.
Thanks!

Blog snafu and calendar items
by
Jeff Cutler
I was poking around some of my other blogs today - the day after Christmas - and noticed that this blog had a 'last post' date of 12/25. Well, that wasn't true. I hadn't actually put a post up here since 12/5 and thought it must be a mistake.
It sort-of was. You see, the blog counts itself as being published - as near as I can figure - any time there is a something new in it. And because there's a calendar embedded in the blog it sees all new entries as new posts.
Oddly, I haven't updated the calendar since the NogUp because many folks plan their own things around the holidays and I haven't taken the time to update stuff here. But to that end, I'm thinking about a new tack.
Going forward, I might do a few different things and want your opinions.
Should I...
Keep the calendar going as I had it - and update it weekly with new events?
Eliminate the calendar and just do posts on upcoming events and recaps of past events?
Embed calendars from other people - or provide just a link to their calendars?
Or something different?
Would love your input. Please leave a comment or send me a note on Twitter.
Thanks and happy holidays!

Busy Week - Jeff Cutler - 2010 Tour de France - Planning for Oil
by
Jeff Cutler
This week was madness. In addition to getting a NomX3 taped - or did we do two - I've been blogging the 2010 Tour de France and preparing for another Content Road Trip.
This time I'm not going with the iRoadTrip guys, but going on my own to create a ton of content in the Gulf of Mexico. I'm covering oil spill ramifications throughout the region and nationally.
As I prepare for that trip, I'm also thinking about upcoming events in Boston. The 140 Conference is coming as are regional Tweetups. In fact, we just had our inaugural South Shore Tweetup this week. More will be happening soon.
Got an event you want featured, recapped or just listed on the calendar? Leave that info in the comments here or find me on Twitter and let me know.
See you out there!

Tuesday at Enterprise 2.0
by
Jeff Cutler
Today's events (Monday) are nearly wrapped up, although there is an evening reception from 4:30-7:30 titled Evening in the Cloud. But I'm looking ahead at the sessions offered tomorrow at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference.
Unlike today's sessions which were about 3:15 long, the classes on Tuesday are quick-hit, one-hour sessions and there are a lot of them. Here's what I'm thinking of going to...
8AM - New Approaches to Breaking Down Information Silos
9AM - Keynotes
1PM - From Idea to Delivery: Apps Don't Deploy Themselves
also at 1PM - Socializing With Video: How Emerging Video Applications will Impact Enterprise Collaboration
2:15PM - Microsharing: It is All About the Tools. It it Not About the Tools.
3:30PM - You Say Social Media, I Say Community—Does it Matter?
Then there are attendee parties, and social media add-on Tweetups and also a boat trip and then some private events for media.
Hoping to run into Social Julio, Steve Garfield, Chris Brogan, Anne Weiskopf, Mike Schneider and others sometime during the show.
I'm over-scheduled, overstimulated and excited for the rest of the week. Are you here? What are you going to?

Some tidbits
by
Jeff Cutler
Just saw that June 4 is National Donut Day.
Signed up for a fondue Tweetup - yes, it's on the calendar.
Made a commitment to be a Wicked Important Person at the Awareness Bon Voyage party.
And I'm trying to see if there's any room in my schedule to get to both of the Tour de France breakfasts at Redbones in Somerville.
What are you up to?

Wandering around Floriday...Thinking about Boston
by
Jeff Cutler
I'm on my way back to the Northeast after a quick dash to the sunny Gulf Coast of Florida. I can't wait for all the great events on the docket for the next few weeks, and now that it's warm out here (aside from the brief rain), things are looking up for outdoor events, fun patio tweetups and tons of geolocation games all summer long.
Got an event you went to that you'd like to review? We accept submissions.
Got an event coming up that you want to pimp? Give us a fair account of the happenings (eliminate your bias as much as possible) and we'll probably run it here.
Just leave a comment or hit me with an email - jeff@jeffcutler.com
Thanks for reading!

Back from SXSW
by
Jeff Cutler
Just returned from South by Southwest and had a great time. Networking was the order of the day and events where this could happen were too numerous to count. Bearing that in mind, I finally got back on the horse and updated the calendar here.
As always, if you want to share an event in detail, give me a shout. I'll add you to the author list. And if you have an event that's missing from the calendar, just leave a note in the comments or email me and I'll make sure it gets added.
Thanks!

Wintry Mix
by
Jeff Cutler
It's snowing again in Boston and that means people are inclined to stay in and fester. I urge you to get out, network and have fun in this weather because once the weather turns nice, everyone will jump on bikes and into golf carts for other entertainment.
The calendar here has been a bit haphazard because of my journalism assignments and travel, but we're getting back on track today. In fact, tonight has a few cool things on it and so do the days remaining in January.
Hope to see you out there.

Back from NYC
by
Jeff Cutler
Just got back from the city that never sleeps and spent a little time updating the WithJeff calendar. I'm sure you'll be able to find something to do this week around Boston. And if you've got an event that's not here...gimme a shout and we'll make you a contributor. That's what makes this calendar great - it's crowdsourced and comprehensive.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and take a look at what's happening this week. Hope to see you all at Nogup2 on Wednesday.
Enjoy - and have fun out there!

Bare Calendar
by
Jeff Cutler
The calendar isn't quite as bare as it looks right now at 1:27PM on Monday. Will be filling it shortly. Have been chasing cats and woodpeckers and bottles of root beer around, so I've been too busy to scour the boards for some fun events.
Off the top of my head, I know of at least five events this week including a Forrester Lunch, Pokin' Holes, Podcamp NH, PR Coffee, Open Coffee, and more. So stuff's coming.
If you know of stuff, sign up to contribute. Just leave your name in the comments of any post.
Thanks! Have fun out there!

Curveball Week
by
Jeff Cutler
My plan this week was to attend ComicCon on the weekend and then dash out to the #140Conf in LA for Tuesday and Wednesday. Flu symptoms - or the actual flu - have kept me home. But that doesn't mean you have to stay indoors.
Instead of exhausting myself with excessive typing, I'll direct you to the calendar at the bottom of the page. Perhaps tomorrow I'll get some previews of events up.
Off to get some chicken soup right now.
Have fun out there....AND DON'T GET SICK!

Where's Bobbie and where would Bobbie's Clone go?
by
BobbieC
I like Jeff's idea of just posting my calendar but I will also add some more things to my list, calling them "things I would go to if I was able to clone myself".
Monday (October 26, 2009) -- My clone would start off the week with a Wordpress meetup -- I'll be home playing Mom.
Tuesday (October 27, 2009) -- Mass Innovation Nights (me) is exhibiting at the MIT Enterprise Forum RFID SIG Big event: The Auto-ID and Sensing Expo. It's free and more than 40 companies will be exhibiting there plus some really awesome speakers.
Wednesday (October 28, 2009) -- Starting off the day with Open Coffee at Andala, I hope. Watch this space (and my space (but not MySpace) and the MassInno space for news on that front in the next few weeks. Evening -- attending the Charitable Irish Society's Annual Silver Key event as staff. (We won't tell them I am not Irish, OK? I've got the hair color but I only married and friended Irish.)
Thursday (October 29, 2009) -- Brainshark's Sharktoberfest from 3-5, then off to the big event of the week -- Mass High Tech All-Stars event with a Tweetup afterward. You'll have to scoop me up and pour me in a cab afterward.
Friday (October 30, 2009) -- My clone would be visiting HubSpot as I can't make it -- that thing about having kids, you know?
Saturday (October 31, 2009) -- Halloween, trick or treating.
Sunday --My clone would definitely head to Boston Media Makers at Doyle's with Steve Garfield

GENIUS! I think I've got it
by
Jeff Cutler
This post is really just for the contributors...but anyone can contribute by posting in the comments.
What I want to do is implement a quasi format. Gradon's post made me realize that everyone is doing tons of different things and with the right mix of people, we'll get an unbeatable mix of Bostontweetups, concerts, social media events and technology conferences.
SO, I'd love for all contributors to put a post up once a week detailing their week ahead. No heavy lifting, could be as simple as...
Monday - Mobile Mondays at The Place
Tuesday - Brunch Conference
Wednesday - #140 Conference Boston
Thursday - Networking at the District
Friday - Hubspot TV taping
Or could be as in-depth as the calendar at the bottom of this page. Just share and I bet we make everyone aware of the events that might be missed by other so-called sources for Boston tweetup and local area events.
Have fun out there!

Non-profits need people too
by
Jeff Cutler
Just got a note from Reiko Beach of TRB Designs, Inc. detailing an event that's happening right around the corner from my house this Thursday.
But it's not the usual event I'd attend. It's a non-profit focused conference positioned to show people how to use different tools to make their events and their organizations successful.
I might go see some of the sessions depending on my schedule. But if you're into non-profits and maybe even social change, give this event a look.
\That's all for now. Have fun out there!
