Duplication - not such a bad thing

Today I was poking around the calendar and making sure I hadn't overlooked anything and guess what I found? Right! Duplicate listings for a few events. Nothing wrong there in my eyes because it indicates that users are adding stuff to the calendar and participating.

I think I'd rather have a calendar with a few duplicate events rather than one without enough options for people. That's why I make sure at some point during the week to take a look at other calendars. If they've found a great event and we don't have it here, I'll just bring it over.

And if you're having an event or know of something we've missed here, drop a note in the comments. We want to make sure we have the complete picture of Boston and the region's tech and social events.

Thanks!

Have fun out there!

What's in a name?

There's been a lot of praise for the WithJeff Calendar and our approach to crowdsourcing Boston events. What has also happened - and this was only last night - there was some confusion about the naming of certain events.

While we all sort-of know what a tweetup is. And we know that the Nog-up was my creation and the Social Media Breakfast began with Bryan Person and now has iterations all over the free world, there are some other events that might not be as well defined.

Take for instance, Social Media for Social Change; Social Media for Social Cause; Tweetsgiving; Social Media Club; social media group; etc.

In fact, the issue that jumped to my attention was the trio of Thanksgiving fundraising events right here in Boston that were all named Tweetsgiving! Really. Well, what we're going to start doing (akin to having more specific hashtags for tweetups) is adding host names to the titles in Eventbrite. Then, if someone does TechInno it won't be confused with WebInno or MassInno as long as the official label is TechInno by Warren G. Harding, or some such iteration.

Good plan? We'd like your comments and participation. If you've got events that need some exposure, leave a comment here and we'll add you to the contributor list.

Thanks and Have Fun Out There!

DrinkCraftBeer and Washburn Underground Beer Tasting Dinner

Do you like beer? Does the sound of hop-cured bacon get your mouth watering? That's right, bacon and hops together in one delicious bite.

On Sunday, November 15th The Washburn Underground Kitchen hijacks Sweetwater Cafe...and now DrinkCraftBeer is in on the heist! All in the name of creating one amazing beer dinner that, after this night, will never be recreated.

The culinary minds of Washburn Underground Kitchen bring you six amazing food courses and DrinkCraftBeer supply a perfectly paired beer with each course. We tried over fifteen beers to come up with the perfect six for this dinner. Tickets are $75, tax and gratuity included.

Menu highlights charcuterie from Happy Pig Salumi: Hop cured bacon, traditional german Bratwurst, and Taza Chocolate rubbed short ribs.

Breweries featured include Allagash, Wachusett, Oskar Blues, Mayflower, and The Bruery.

Full menu, beer list, and tickets available here: http://drinkcraftbeer.com/dinner

Seriously? There is something for everyone!

If you can't find something to do this week, you're too picky. Take a look at the calendar at the bottom of the page. There are about 31 events going on this week. From traditional Tweetups to the coolest concerts to everything in-between.

I know that I'm totally booked this week doing something every night and day. What are you excited about this week?

And what do you have on your calendar that we might have missed? Leave that info in the comments and we'll add it. If you put on regular tweetups or social media or even basic social events, leave a comment and we'll make you a contributor and a calendar editor.

Thanks! And have fun out there!

Another Shel in Boston!

And also Thursday night, Shel Israel is signing his book "Twitterville" and talking at the Harvard Faculty Club.

Do these events just materialize or what!? Good thing we've got a network of contributors to make this the best, most accurate repository for tweetups and other events in Boston.

Here's the info on Shel's Harvard event... GO HERE.

Have fun out there!

More events w/Bobbie (& @MassInno)

Another scurry, scurry week -- I'm blaming it on the changing of the clocks...oh, wait, that's supposed to give me an extra hour.

Wednesday 11/4 is another two-fer with Open Coffee in the morning, a batch of meetings mid-day and then off to the Social Media Club at the Nerd Center in the evening -- "The future of..."

Thursday morning 11/5 Businesswire is hosting a Greentech Breakfast in Waltham at the Westin -- invitation and reservations required. (Hey, Greylock may be leaving but there are lots of us still there!)

Then, Thursday night is another one of the BIG award events! The MassTLC Technology Leadership events. The awards gala looks like it will have an awesome guest list! (These award events do tend to bring out the glitterati...)

Looking ahead to next week (November 8-14):
  • The National Debate Series event on Tuesday (I got a coupon....25% off with coupon code MASSINNO)
  • Mass Innovation Nights on Wednesday -- woo-hoo, see you there.
  • A top secret will-tell-you-more-soon meeting on Thursday morning
  • Friday is the Customer Reference Group meeting in Chelmsford
And, don't forget to sign up now for the 14th Annual MITX Interactive Awards program being held on 11/17/09

Bare Calendar

The calendar isn't quite as bare as it looks right now at 1:27PM on Monday. Will be filling it shortly. Have been chasing cats and woodpeckers and bottles of root beer around, so I've been too busy to scour the boards for some fun events.

Off the top of my head, I know of at least five events this week including a Forrester Lunch, Pokin' Holes, Podcamp NH, PR Coffee, Open Coffee, and more. So stuff's coming.

If you know of stuff, sign up to contribute. Just leave your name in the comments of any post.

Thanks! Have fun out there!
